For the Boston heads into the experimental side of electronic music! Vermin Street is a production company who has been around for two years now and have been instrumental in promoting many different 1-off parties in the city at places including Wonderbar, All Asia, and Tavern at the End of the World. Not boxing themselves into one form of music, vermin street has kept a pretty open mind on the forms of music they promote and have brought under their wing a variety of different local producers, including Vinyl Blight, So So Gutter, ArcRunner, Zebbler, and Pete Dev/Null who generate anything from ambient, dubstep, jungle, breakcore, glitch, and everything in between. They've also expanded out into the world of video and other forms of creative media which they incorporate into their stage acts, so expect something out of the ordinary when you see one of their shows. Their upcoming events will be posted here, so watch this space.
In the meantime, be on the lookout for Vermin Street's first official EP release, coming on July 23rd to Amazon as well as iTunes. It's a shared 2-tracker showcasing the likes of Chicago's DJ C and Trigga; both tracks are loosely based off the dubstep blueprint with a few elements to make each unique. C's track "Acid Bounce" is slowed down a bit from the traditional dubstep tempo to allow it to pivot around it's squelchy acid lead, as well as an acid bass layered beneath that complimenting the hi-passed lead nicely. I wish it was a little longer (it only clocks in at 3 minutes and begins to unwind just as it started getting going, but still gets it's point across). Flip over to Trigga's Stormtime- this track is HOT. Speeding things up a bit but still dubstep oriented- Stormtime oozes funk out of it's sparse drums patterns and squelchy lead which hits in all the right places without going overboard or going too rough on my eardrums. There's actually a few different synthesized lead sounds here to keep things interesting as this tune is much longer than the A-side, by about 6 minutes. There's a breakdown around halfway through to allow you some protection from the storm before going in for a second round. When this comes out on Amazon I'll be sure to link the widget on here and bump this post.
Be on the lookout for much more activity from Vermin Street down the road as well, and check out a couple videos of their artists courtesy of their youtube channel!
