B.Rich is making a highly anticipated return to Boston this coming tuesday! Since moving back to hometown Pittsburgh earlier this year, he has been probably the most productive he has ever been in the studio, dropping original tracks and remixes left and right. He’s in the midst of a North American tour which he began a few weeks ago, and we’ll get to hear some of the dancefloor fillers he’s been working on when he visits his “home away from home” this coming week. Expect to hear a set rammed with dubstep, uk funky, baltimore club, dutch house, a touch of electro, he spans the entire gamut!
Respect for So Dope and Drink Musik for putting this event together!
So we’ll start this post with the official event info:

B.Rich’s other tour stops below:
That being said, I had a chance to catch up with B.Rich this past week. I sent him a few interview questions; because Beantown Boogiedown has had a slight lean towards audio production, a few of the questions focus a bit on the technical side of things. Respect to Barrett for the quick response and Mike Tran for getting me in touch with him!
Nick: I know you’ve been working hard at producing for a pretty long time. When did it occur to you that it could potentially become more than just a fun hobby?
B.Rich: It’s been more than just a “fun hobby” for many years now and it was more of like a part-time job (still fun though). But I guess it was in the beginning of 2009 where I realized that I either needed to go all-in, so to speak, or it wasn’t going to happen. I had some great support and I decided to go with it, so I left my job to do this full time and haven’t looked back since.
Nick: For the tech-savvy amongst us, describe your current studio set-up.
B.Rich: It is pretty simple. Quad-core/4GB RAM PC running Cubase SX 3 (so outdated! buying 5 when i get back from tour). Various crucial VSTi including but not limited to NI Massive, Albino3, Predator with that tiny Oxygen 8 MIDI controller. My monitors are a 2.1 system from A Blue Sky. Really good.. helps me nail that big bass sound for the clubs. Also, a coffee machine.
Nick: If you could have any one piece of classic/vintage hardware that you don’t currently have (sp1200, tr-808, etc) what would you choose and how would you utilize it in your production workflow?
B.Rich: I kind of miss my Juno-106 but I’d take a TB-303 and bring back the acidline.
Nick: What was the first dance music based cd or 12” you bought? Do you still have it today?
B.Rich: For dance music, it was Moby’s self-titled first album and a compilation called “Rave Til Dawn”. It had all the classics. Blue Pearl, Praga Khan,Lords of Acid, Channel X etc.
Nick: Which musicians or producers who you have not collaborated with yet would you like to work with the most in the near future?
B.Rich: I have plans with a handful of artists for upcoming collabs. You could possibly see some collabs with guys like 12th Planet and Foamo next year. I just recently did a tune with San Francisco badman DZ and also recorded a tune in Atlanta while on tour with Sporty-O and Armanni Reign.
Nick: As dance music distribution has almost completed it’s transition from traditional media (vinyl and cd’s) to entirely digital, a number of producers feel that in several years time most musical content will be distributed for free and their main source of income will be derived from gigs, live shows, and branded accessories (clothing, etc.) Do you agree or disagree with this projection?
B.Rich: I’ve been saying just the same thing and completely agree.
Nick: Any upcoming projects or releases you would like to let us know about?
B.Rich: Wrapping up a remix for Ultra / Tommie Sunshine at the moment and a handful of various remixes that’ll probably come out early next year. Most of it has been on either the deeper funky tip or dubstep lately. My Party Like Us Remix EP drops soon this month with remixes by Heavyfeet, Squires of Gothos, J. Rabbit, AC Slater and AutoErotique.
Nick: Top five tracks in your crate right now.
