It’s pretty tough to believe we’re less than two weeks away from the TOGETHER fest here in Boston; it’s approaching quicker than I ever could have anticipated. With an awesome team of people, this year working literally around the clock (and putting petit things like, say, sleep aside) to make it a possibility, getting excited about the week is only natural.
For someone new to the festival (or electronic music for that matter) it can be overwhelming the number of artists on the roster this year. They run the entire gamut genre-wise. If you’re interested in a condensed sampling of what you will be hearing this year, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve done the homework so you don’t have to!
This is a two-hour mix I recorded showcasing the various work of almost all of the headliners playing TOGETHER this year. Putting compilations like this is fun because I love the challenge of finding songs that fit well together across a very finite number of artists. There were about 200 different songs I had slated for this mix, which I ended up whittling down to around 50. Aside from one custom edit I did for the 6th Borough Project songs, these are mixed as-is, using just Serato and plain ol’ vinyl. Some of these songs I’ve owned for over a decade, while others just released just days ago. The mix starts at around 100bpm and ends up at around 180bpm before ending with a couple of downtempo bits from Teebs and RJD2.
I will be pressing up physical CD copies that include an 80-minute extraction of this mix at the beginning of the big week. I hope you enjoy it; more importantly, I hope you’re able to make it out to some of these events these artists are playing at.
