This Old Mixtape: 1996 Radio Techno Mix From Upstate NY + Contest!

So I’ve been slowly trickling my vintage mix cassettes from the 1990s to the wonders of the world wide web. I came across one tape in my archives that I haven’t listened to in years. When I was still in high school and living in upstate NY, one of our local radio stations (K-Rock) used to host a techno and electronica show on sunday nights at a really late time like 11pm.
The show generally had local dj’s mixing stuff live; some nights it was a standard house and techno affair while other times they would foray into downtempo and trip hop. Unfortunately the show was very short lived; I think K-Rock only had it in rotation for a few months tops, in the hazy days of the summer of 1996.
Many years later however, that station ended up revisiting the realm of dance music and had another incarnation of that radio show, which to my knowledge lasted much longer and had a larger listening base. It’s too bad the 90s version didn’t do the same, the listeners probably just wanted to hear top 40 fodder by Bush, Sponge, Metallica, Oasis, and the Verve Pipe!
This tape is a 40-minute section of one of the mixes I recorded from the show. Although not all of the tracks on here are amazing (especially that Mission Impossible bootleg), it’s still a cool trip down memory lane. So here is where the contest comes in! I have no idea what the track ID’s are to pretty much all of these tracks, sans the Barbara Tucker classic on Strictly Rhythm. If you are able to ID any of these and post in the comments section, you get to pick a free CD in the list below which I send to you. Sound cool? The lot of CD’s up for the taking are listed below the mix- first come first serve! PS- there is NO deadline here. Sound quality on this tape isn’t the best (there’s a little bit of crackly static in some parts), so apologies for that.
