Klute Touches Down at Elements, Tomorrow, 9.24.09!

Not to be confused with the classic early 1970s movie, Klute, better known to his friends and family as Tom Withers, will be playing this Thursday at the Phoenix Landing. Klute gets the opportunity to control the consoles there once a year, and with each visit comes a packed dancefloor waiting to hear all of the experimental sounds he has up his sleeve.
Klute isn’t one to follow trends in the drum and bass scene. With an upbringing that involves a punk band (The Stupids) along with a very respectable batch of experimental releases on labels such as Ninja Tune and Certificate 18, he brings a ton of different influences into his sound and is well renowned for his authenticity. Over the past few years he has been working techno and minimal sounds into the 175 bpm structure. 2004’s LP “No One Is Listening Anymore” subtly hinted at it, but it was 2007’s follow-up “The Emperor’s New Clothes” that really highlighted his eclectic tastes with techno and downtempo influences infused throughout the entirety of the double disc package. He hasn’t released anything since last year’s “Halloween” (video below) which can only mean one thing: he’s busy in the studio pushing envelopes in a quest to follow a very tough act of his very successful Emperor LP.
My favorite song of Klute is “Follow Me”, featuring Robert Manos on vocals, released on Hospital in 2002 (was that REALLY 7 years ago? Damn…I really am getting old!) Video of that below as well.
