Sweet Shop 6- Garage, Juke, House, and R&B at Goodlife, Featuring Brenmar. 1.14.12
Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1:54PM You know those signs at Goodlife by the DJ booth that say “We love you! But please, no requests” in big bold letters? If you’re one to always remind whoever is playing it’s your birthday, tonight you might be in for a bit of relief. Yes, you technically won’t be able to ask headliner Brenmar to play anything specific, I know. But what you’re dealing with here is a producer who has a knack writing songs with very catchy vocal hooks, set on top of those swinging beats you deserve to dance to after working your tail off all week. CreateSpace is back, and Brenmar is the sonic keynote speaker laying down the soundtrack of their first Sweet Shop of 2012.
A newer producer, Brenmar gained traction last year with a unique sound that borrows anthmic R&B vocals, chopped-up and edited in a format reminiscent of 2-step garage, along with house-and-bass grooves on the low end of the spectrum, even fragments of juke to let the heads know he was born in Chicago. (Although he has since migrated to L.A.) His biggest release came last summer- a four-track EP on Sinden’s Grizzly stable, which showcases tracks like “Let Me Know”, “So High”, and a Dubble Dutch rework of the latter.

Of course this is Goodlife we’re talking about here, and since life is ALWAYS good there, specifically on Saturday nights, it will be worth your while to get there very early as per usual. It’s cold outside, don’t be one of those guys who gets stuck out there instead of inside the building, where you will be able to hear the likes of General Motor, Mr. McNeill, and Paul Foley (who will be laying down a four-hour megamix upstairs!)
Goodlife, 28 Kingston St., Boston. $5 before 11, $10 after. 21+
