IDM Producer Andrei Heyoka Returns To Music Ecology, Allston, 10.4.11

For those of us who were less fortunate (or too old) to make it to Burning Man last month, consider yourself lucky. You still get a chance to witness one of the most talked-about breakthrough performers flex his production muscle right in our dust-free backyard! Heyoka played at Music Ecology (Wonderbar, 186 Harvard Ave, Allston) back in March, but he’s been working on a lot of new music since then.

I’m not even going to bother trying to classify him under a single genre outside of IDM. The man dabs in everything from hip hop, downtempo, breakbeats, glitch, and of course dubstep. (Everybody’s doing dubstep, so why can’t he? Especially considering the fact he does it proper.) $10 cover.

Soundcloud mini-mix below for a taste test.

Take a gander at what the Music Ecology guys have coming up for the rest of October as well. Elements resident Lenore is playing next week, Jeff Bujak and D.V.S. closing out the month.

Support the Invisible Allies, BrainTrust & Japan on 3.16.11 at Wonderbar

Fans of laid-back, experimental electronic music are in for a treat this Wednesday. The BrainTrust has a party going on at Wonderbar in Allston (everyone’s favorite college town), and they proudly present the Invisible Allies. The Invisible Allies are a duo who consist of veteran producers Bluetech and KiloWatts. What makes these guys interesting is the fact that they not only collaborate remotely on their original productions, but also the fact that about 3,000 miles separates them!

Taking the brash edgey, frentic-paced lifestyle of the northeast and combining it with the laid-back, mellower strand of the DNA that formulates the west coast is what the Invisible Allies do best. And is only natural, considering that KiloWatts hails from Philly, while Bluetech reps Cali to the fullest. Their most recent full-length effort, Hyperdimensional Animals, is what these guys are touring, and is a fantastic listen from start to finish.

You can listen to Hyperdimensional Animals on the Invisible Allies’ bandcamp page, and download a digital copy for only $10. And if you only want to listen, please note that there is a FREE DOWNLOAD there of their non-album track “Turquoise Rain Chant” for you as well.

Show starts at 9pm at Wonderbar, 186 Harvard Ave, Allston MA.

Not only does the $15 cover price entitle you to a quality live performance, but ALL of the proceeds are going directly to Japanese relief efforts to help them recover from last weeks’ devestating series of events.

And be on the lookout for Braintrust’s upcoming events!

3.23.11: Kung Fu Featuring Otis Groove (Wonder Bar)
3.24.11: OTT Ft. Phutureprimitive and Supersilly US (Middle East Downstairs)
4.20.11: Future Rock, Sub Swara & Auto Orbit (Middle East Downstairs)
4.28.11: Beats Antique, ESKMO & Lespecial (Middle East Downstairs)

Ample Mammal/Polish Ambassador Plays Music Ecology, Wonderbar, 2.22.11

San Francisco’s Ample Mammal, also known as the Polish Ambassador, touches down at Music Ecology in Allston tonight. Many fans refer to him as the “more sophisticated version of Girl Talk”, because of how he takes dozens of loops, samples, vocals, and other sounds and creates entire compositions out of them. Many of these sounds are entirely his own, so don’t expect to hear any Girl Talk style Bob Marley vocals laid over Britney Spears backbeats!

You can have a tease of one of Ample Mammal’s recent mixes below. If you dig, then grab the entire mix on his Bandcamp page.

Drum and Bass heads! Mizeyesis and Torrential make their Allston debut.

Bass in the place this Wednesday at Wonderbar in Allston! Torrential and Miz-eyesis are DJ's who hail from Connecticut, both of whom have been very involved in the dance music community both within their hometown as well as all over the northeast. Both have played gigs all over the area, are known for their eclectic and versatile tastes in music, have been instrumental in helping promote the Threshold parties in Hartford, and are some of the truest people in this business. They will be backed by the Statesmen, who are fresh off the launch of their debut EP, which I recently reviewed on here (just scroll down a little ways, it's still on the front page yo!) Should be a proper night.

PAPER returns! 7.2.09, Harpers Ferry- To The Masquerade, Jay K, etc.

Did you think Paper was going to be on vacation for the entire summer and that you wouldn't be able to catch another one of their jams until the bitter end of the summer? Well you thought wrong! And even though the summer weather is hardly here, you don't even notice the rain when you're inside the bar anyways. Paper returns tomorrow night at the harpers ferry, and it's another 18+ night!

On tap for tomorrow:

FTW 1-Year Anniversary, tonight at Privus. Designer Drugs, HPD, etc.

Props to the FTW Crew for producing some of the biggest house/electro themed events in Boston over the course of the past year! They have pretty much made Privus their stomping grounds, bringing in talented producers and DJ's from all over the country as well as locally to play for a packed room of people week in and week out. This week on tap is Designer Drugs (check their bio below), Hot Pink Delorean (who should require no intro whatsoever as they've been instrumental in making all of this happen in the first place), and David Day (the man behind Basstown and a big part of the Speaking in Codes movie!)

Designer Drugs

Designer Drugs is a New York based electro-house duo focused on making stadium rocking bangers. Currently, Designer Drugs is releasing remixes for artists such as Little Boots (Iamsound Records), The Veronicas (Warner Brothers), Thieves Like Us (Kitsune), Jupiter One (Warner Brothers), HeartsRevolution (Iheartcomix), Mission Control (Etc, Etc), Freezepop (Warner Brothers), Hail Social (Flaming Hotz), Protokol (Iheartcomix, over 500,000 copies distributed on CD via Scion), IAMX (formerly of The Sneaker Pimps), and Fake Shark - Real Zombie. Designer Drugs will be releasing their first single on Iheartcomix in mid-October.

Michael Patrick, Designer Drugs’ DJ/Frontman is booking shows throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With over 11 years experience and the ability to read and work any crowd, he continues to kill it on the dance floor. In 2008 he has DJed at major parties in almost all major cities throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. He teamed up with JHN RDN to create Philadelphia’s best monthly party; LIVE FOREVER.
Both members of Designer Drugs pull from their classical music training to create club anthems with pop sensibilities; encouraging the listener to enjoy the music both in the club and in their living rooms. Slaves to the studio, they focus on top end production and are constantly requested to write, record, mix and master projects for other artists.

Hot Pink Delorean

Their new EP "I Am What Porno Should Be Part 2" has recently hit the streets and is getting a good amount of play from house and electro dj's throughout the US! Check out the links below to sample/purchase MP3's from it.

David Day

David Day is a man of many talents, which include his work as an A&E Editor at Boston's Weekly Dig, helping run and promote Basstown and their slew of events (Back to the Rave, Make It New, etc), and DJ-ing quality house music all over the Boston area. Get there early tonight to catch his set, I'm sure it will be high quality!
