10-Minute Video of Klever at An Tua Nua, Plus Pics From Genesis

Hi all- here are my audio and visual goods from this past weekend. I saw Klever for the first time this past Friday at An Tua Nua. I dug the way he managed to balance some old-school turntablism by double decking records and rocking some very fast fader cuts with utilizing his technology (Traktor and an X1 controller) to its fullest potential. Ended up grabbing about 10 minutes of video which you can check out above.

I did not have my SLR on me at An Tua Nua, but you can check out the official pics here and here. There are a few iPhone snaps I grabbed, which are linked below. Also, a few SLR pics from Music Ecology’s Genesis the following night.

Circus Presents DJ KLEVER, Tonight 1.6.12 at An Tua Nua, $5 with RSVP

Allright guys, let’s start the weekend off with properly with a legendary stateside turntablist. Klever hasn’t been to Boston in a few years (to my knowledge) and is one of those guys people always talk about on the message boards and Facebook after he plays a show. DJ-ing is more his forte (as opposed to producing), but he always puts on a show! Mashing up everything from hip hop to breaks, electro, house, and whatever, nobody ought to walk out of An Tua Nua (835 Beacon St., Boston) disappointed.

Let’s let the video do the talking when it comes to his skills!

Also, in case you’ve ever wondered where those DMC gold discs originated, look no further. Slow Roast Records label mate DJ Craze reveals the mystery to both Klever and the rest of the world:

Get there early to see Parallax, Repeat Offenders, Sex Goliath, Voltran, Jeff Gil, and Caezar lay the groundwork in both the front and the back rooms. RSVP here to save five bucks.

Circus and DJ Funk Return To Boston, Tonight at An Tua Nua, 11.11.11

First off- Apologies for lack of updates on here the last few days. I just bought a new desktop, and it took a couple days to get all my stuff migrated from my old Mac to the new one. That went pretty smooth and now I’m back at it again.

That being said, we have the return of both the Circus night, as well as DJ Funk, tonight at An Tua Nua (near Kenmore square). If you missed Funk when he played Goodlife this past summer…well, you missed out. Funk does his booty house and chicago juke thing, and does it well. You can expect the same tonight, along with plenty of on-the-mic jokes (he’s his own emcee you know), and Cajmere’s “Perculator” played at least 3 or 4 times. Totally game for that.

Circus was the night Jeff Gil and Casey used to run over at Privus on Saturdays in Allston (circa 2008-09). It’s been on hiatus since their last party at the Great Scott in 2010, so good to see the return of one of Boston’s most popular nights.

RSVP the event on Facebook, GET IN FREE before 11 pm.

FTW 1-Year Anniversary, tonight at Privus. Designer Drugs, HPD, etc.

Props to the FTW Crew for producing some of the biggest house/electro themed events in Boston over the course of the past year! They have pretty much made Privus their stomping grounds, bringing in talented producers and DJ's from all over the country as well as locally to play for a packed room of people week in and week out. This week on tap is Designer Drugs (check their bio below), Hot Pink Delorean (who should require no intro whatsoever as they've been instrumental in making all of this happen in the first place), and David Day (the man behind Basstown and a big part of the Speaking in Codes movie!)

Designer Drugs

Designer Drugs is a New York based electro-house duo focused on making stadium rocking bangers. Currently, Designer Drugs is releasing remixes for artists such as Little Boots (Iamsound Records), The Veronicas (Warner Brothers), Thieves Like Us (Kitsune), Jupiter One (Warner Brothers), HeartsRevolution (Iheartcomix), Mission Control (Etc, Etc), Freezepop (Warner Brothers), Hail Social (Flaming Hotz), Protokol (Iheartcomix, over 500,000 copies distributed on CD via Scion), IAMX (formerly of The Sneaker Pimps), and Fake Shark - Real Zombie. Designer Drugs will be releasing their first single on Iheartcomix in mid-October.

Michael Patrick, Designer Drugs’ DJ/Frontman is booking shows throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With over 11 years experience and the ability to read and work any crowd, he continues to kill it on the dance floor. In 2008 he has DJed at major parties in almost all major cities throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. He teamed up with JHN RDN to create Philadelphia’s best monthly party; LIVE FOREVER.
Both members of Designer Drugs pull from their classical music training to create club anthems with pop sensibilities; encouraging the listener to enjoy the music both in the club and in their living rooms. Slaves to the studio, they focus on top end production and are constantly requested to write, record, mix and master projects for other artists.

Hot Pink Delorean

Their new EP "I Am What Porno Should Be Part 2" has recently hit the streets and is getting a good amount of play from house and electro dj's throughout the US! Check out the links below to sample/purchase MP3's from it.

David Day

David Day is a man of many talents, which include his work as an A&E Editor at Boston's Weekly Dig, helping run and promote Basstown and their slew of events (Back to the Rave, Make It New, etc), and DJ-ing quality house music all over the Boston area. Get there early tonight to catch his set, I'm sure it will be high quality!

Reid Speed & B.Rich, Privus, Saturday!

Big event at Privus this saturday, make sure you get there early to avoid the line! $3 to check out Reid Speed is a steel, and anyone who has seen her knows exactly why. She draws crowds no matter where she plays and what day of the week it is, and has never been someone who boxes herself into one small sub-genre of music- if she likes it she plays it! Working full-time as a dj for over a decade now, she knows how to read a floor, which makes it no surprise that she is considered by many as one of the top ten female dj's in the world. I'm not sure if B.Rich is playing before or after Reid, but be sure to stick around for his set if he plays afterwards...he's no stranger behind the decks at Privus, and will definitely come strapped with fresh AC Slater, Treasure Fingers, and Udachi tracks in the bag!
