House/Electro Producer Clockwork Plays Foundation Room, 3.24.11

Ok Boston, here’s another opportunity to claim “I saw this producer in 2011 before he blew up” bragging rights. Although he’s only 20 years old at the moment, Henry “Clockwork” Steinway has gone straight from the bedroom to wearing the headliner hat in just two years. Initially renowned for his remix work, Clockwork’s alias does the talking: his renditions of other people’s tracks are functional, make the crowd lose it on the dancefloor, and, like that old grandfather clock in your mother’s dining room, just plain WORKS.

Clockwork has spent a great deal of time in both LA as well as New York. He has churned out official remixes for Crystal Castles and Snoop Dogg, and many of his original joints are getting played by MSTRKRFT, Kill The Noise, and Felix Cartel. Astute dance music afficiandos know full well that these guys are all A-listers, a place where Steinway will soon be headed himself, especially with a couple more high-profile remixes on his resume.

You can check out his mix below, as well as many of his originals on his soundcloud. Just don’t listen to the mix sitting down. Do some pilates or jumping jacks in your living room, or to hell with it and just straight up go to the gym, this is a bassline workout from one side of the book to the back. Once you’re through listening, just go ahead and mark tomorrow night on your calendar. Clockwork plays Foundation Room in Boston (15 Landsdown Street).

Clockwork Presents: 2011 GDD™ Mixtape by ClockworkMusic

The second in the Creme De La Creme series hosted by Mike Tran and company, you can bet these guys are going to be bringing you plenty of fresh talent on a once-a-month basis. The Nightriders, Voltran, and NE Tempo are opening. Cover is FREE with Admission (click here for more info), and Facebook event page is here. Rock on.

Medeski, Martin and Wood: House of Blues 11.13- Ticket Giveaway!

Allright folks, after the popularity of the Thievery Corporation ticket giveaway on here, LiveNation and the House of Blues have also graciously donated up a pair of tickets to the Medeski, Martin and Wood concert on FRIDAY, November 13th! If you’re unfamiliar with MMW I highly recommend them- they’ve always been lumped into the “jam band” category but over the past 20 years of their career they have managed to fuse everything from jazz, funk, electronica, blues, rock, even hip hop and gospel, into their formula.

The 3-part Radiolarians series is their most recent project and has been released in increments across the landscape of the past two years. Taking on a more organic and less formulaic approach than all of their previous work, Radiolarians is a studio project that loosely interprets the highlights of their live sessions. You will probably see some of the work from this recent project in a live context at this show, along with plenty of new, unreleased material as well.

If you’re unfamiliar with MMW, a great place to start is their Last Chance to Dance Trance (Perhaps) compilation, which gathered the strength of much of their 1990s work!

So here’s the RULES: It’s going to be the same as the last time. Leave a comment in the comments section with your name and email. I will make the drawing on this Friday, October 30th, at 9 AM and announce the winner on here. Winner will receive a pair of tickets; all they need to do is give the ticket attendant at the box office their name and they will handle their admittance from there. You have up until 9 AM this Friday to enter.

Going forward, to make things fair, only contestants who haven’t won any prizes in BBD-related contests in the last six months are eligible to participate.

And stay tuned, it’s very likely that there will be more ticket giveaways from the House of Blues in the future! Many thanks for your support.

All right folks, I have a special surprise for all of you, courtesy of the House of Blues. The Thievery Corporation will be making their second 2009 appearance later on this month, on October 26th. You have until 8:00am this coming Friday to get your entry in, after which I will draw the names of two people via a follow-up post. I am waiting to hear back from the HoB rep I’m in touch with just confirm if there’s any specific actions the winners need to take after the drawing aside from just showing up the night of the event; once I get any pertinent info I will post accordingly.

For additional info about the show, here’s the official listing on the HoB site, which includes ticket purchase info.

Good luck everyone! Feel free to email directly if you have any additional questions: nminieri@yahoo.com

Major Lazer (Switch & Diplo) in Boston, House of Blues, 6.18.09!

This is great news! I was upset that I missed Diplo the last two times he came around to visit (at the Middle East as well as Northeastern's spring concert a few weeks ago), but being the fact that he is pretty much the biggest DJ in the world right now I knew there would be plenty of additional opportunities to see him around here. He's touring with Switch under their Major Lazer alias, who are well known for both their original production as well as remix work with the likes of M.I.A., Blaqstarr, Basement Jaxx, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, as well as a long list of additional notables.

Their new album "Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do!" will release on 6/16, two days before their Boston appearance. And they're making not one, but TWO appearances in Boston: not only will they do their live gig at the House of Blues, but they will also be throwing down a DJ set and CD signing session at the Newbury Comics on Newbury St. at 6pm that night!

I don't have any additional details about this show other than it looks like Steve Porter and Redfoxx are opening, and links to purchase tickets aren't up on HOB's site yet either. But keep checking back, they should be available shortly!

The new CD is going to have notable reggae and dancehall influences as well as a slew of guest appearances. The first single is a mash-up of the classic Toto track Hold The Line just dropped a few weeks ago, get it now while it's still hot!

Crystal Method @ House of Blues, 5.6.09

Crystal Method will be touching down in Boston at the House of Blues on May 6th to promote their upcoming album Divided By Night! It will be a live performance and certainly not one to miss; they played at underbar last year and the show had a great turnout and good reviews all around.

Check out the livenation site; you can not only purchase tickets here but also pre-order CD or vinyl copies of the new LP. Video for the first single, Down in the Now, below.

Well-known Boston dj Melee opening, grab his most recent mix, Live Reload, with MO7S here.
