September and October 2010 Elements Lineup is Released

So I decided to cut back during the month of August posting events on here just to temporarily take a break. Now that school is back in session, the Fantasy Football drafts are over and all my favorite shows on FX are rolling new seasons in high gear, it’s time to get back to work!!

Let’s start with Elements. There’s no question they have a solid lineup for September and October (no surprise really, when don’t they?)

Basek and Fes tore it up last week, and if you weren’t there, check out the pics I took in the gallery.

This Thursday (Sep 9) is DJ DARA, who will kick off his set with some London ‘Ardkore from circa ‘93-‘94 at around 160bpm, and work his way up to present-day drum and bass. And Pete Dev/Null is opening, who also happens to have plenty of records from the early years of drum and bass. Will definitely be a full house so get there early.

Following DARA, here is the schedule for Sept/Oct:

9.16: Terravita
9.23: Residents Crook & Lenore
9.30: Klute
10.7: The Statesmen
10.14: John B (Phoenix Landing 15 Year Anniversary)
10.21: Ross Tiefenthaler
10.28: Residents Crook & Lenore

Klute Touches Down at Elements, Tomorrow, 9.24.09!

Not to be confused with the classic early 1970s movie, Klute, better known to his friends and family as Tom Withers, will be playing this Thursday at the Phoenix Landing. Klute gets the opportunity to control the consoles there once a year, and with each visit comes a packed dancefloor waiting to hear all of the experimental sounds he has up his sleeve.

Klute isn’t one to follow trends in the drum and bass scene. With an upbringing that involves a punk band (The Stupids) along with a very respectable batch of experimental releases on labels such as Ninja Tune and Certificate 18, he brings a ton of different influences into his sound and is well renowned for his authenticity. Over the past few years he has been working techno and minimal sounds into the 175 bpm structure. 2004’s LP “No One Is Listening Anymore” subtly hinted at it, but it was 2007’s follow-up “The Emperor’s New Clothes” that really highlighted his eclectic tastes with techno and downtempo influences infused throughout the entirety of the double disc package. He hasn’t released anything since last year’s “Halloween” (video below) which can only mean one thing: he’s busy in the studio pushing envelopes in a quest to follow a very tough act of his very successful Emperor LP.

My favorite song of Klute is “Follow Me”, featuring Robert Manos on vocals, released on Hospital in 2002 (was that REALLY 7 years ago? Damn…I really am getting old!) Video of that below as well.

Elements September/October '09 Flyer and lineup

Yo yo yo! Here is the September and October 2009 flyer for Elements on Thursdays at the Phoenix Landing! Be sure to check out Klute next thursday, he’s a producer who has constantly implemented unique and innovative sounds within the genre, most recently known for his fusion of minimal techno and other styles completely unrelated to dnb into his saucepot. Klute, along with A-Sides on October 29th, have both been annual guests at Elements and always draw decent crowds.

Evol Intent is playing on October 22nd, and they’re no strangers to stateside dnb - even with the success of their side projects, which include Computer Club, Treasure Fingers, and Ludachrist, they still manage to produce and DJ under their original alias playing their original passion: a dark energetic breed of drum and bass that includes influences coming from everything including metal and south-central L.A. hip hop!

Can’t forget local cats Nuggs (founding member of Lab Boston also known as Scotch 1 when he plays dubstep) as well as Sable Gray, whose Sunrise EP I featured on here a few months ago in the Backyard section.

Btw- whoever designed the flyer this month, nice work. Colors pop really nicely, and orange is a perfect fall color (makes me want to drink a Sam Adams Octoberfest right now just thinking about it, too bad I’ll have to wait a few more weeks before it hits the shelves)

9/17: Residents Crook & Lenore
9/24: Klute
9/1: Sable Gray
9/8: old school sets by Nuggs (Scotch 1) and Rando (one of Elements’ original residents!)
9/15: Residents Crook & Lenore
9/22: Evol Intent
9/29: A-Sides

Elements- Lineup for September

September is just around the corner, the college kids are returning to school, the beaches have emptied out yet the water is still warm…and the Phoenix Landing will surely be packed on Thursdays! Here’s the confirmed September lineup- I was wondering if producer Klute of Commercial Suicide fame was going to play out here this year, he’s played at Elements every year since I’ve lived out here, 2009 now being no exception. Oh yeah, Caustic makes his return from the left coast. He hasn’t played here since he originally moved away in 2006- another reason for celebration (bitches)!
