We never thought it would happen, but it finally did! HIPP-E & HALO back together for a special night of House Music. Join us for the first installment of the “SUMMER OF DUB” party series at An Tua Nua. Got some Great things coming up this summer, so stay tuned!
Who’s ready for some proper acid house/techno tonight? The Midweek Techno gang have recently revamped their weekly at the Phoenix Landing (512 Mass Ave, Cambridge), titling it Re:Set. KiNK originally caught my attention about a year ago from an EP he released on Ovum Recordings that included the following song, which eventually went on to become one of the biggest anthems of the year:
Following this, it also came to my attention that when this guy plays live, it isn’t just a DJ set, but rather live PA, using entirely vintage analog drum machines, synths, and samplers. And as evidenced by the videos below, he does a pretty damn good job at improvising live, whether it’s in his bedroom or in front of thousands of people:
So if you’re sold on KiNK, then come check him play Re:Set tonight, alongside local favorite Volvox. The Phoenix is 19+, and only $5 if you’re there before 11pm. Show kicks off at 9:30pm.
HEIDI always comes to visit the Phoenix at least once a year for Midweektechno, and Eli of Soul Clap always celebrates his birthday at least once a year there as well. It just so happens these events intersect this time around, so why not throw Dirtybird’sJustin Martin into the picture as well? Should be a good party, get there early! Doors open at 9pm and goes to 1am. I think the $10 pre-sales are sold out by the way.
For the first time ever at Midweek Techno, Pat Fontes and D-Lux are joining forces!! Warming up the dancefloor proper is D-Lux… and drop the roof is the Vinyl King, Pat Fontes!
Wednesday, Mar 24th, 2010 Doors 10PM, 19+ Ladies free all night, $5 after 11PM
Phoenix Landing 512 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, MA 02139
DJs: D-Lux & Pat Fontes

Tonight at the Phoenix Landing! This is Davide’s debut performance in Boston. Sergio Santos will also be performing the dual duty of opening along with celebrating his 30th birthday. Davide’s bio:
Davide Squillace is not available for comment. He’s got to catch a flight; he’s rushing to the studio; the stage manager is frantically hurrying him into the booth; he’s meeting to discuss plans for his labels…or any of the other myriad reasons why Davide feels like he hasn’t slept, eaten or stopped running for what seems like his whole life.
Born in Siena, raised in Naples, it took a trip to London for Davide to finally discover electronic music. Wooed by the mood and sound of the British scene, he returned to Naples flush with energy, excitement and a knowing that this new calling would consume him.
Davide Squillace immersed himself in this world in every conceivable way. In 1999 he began studying at the Naples’ school of sound engineering, tinkering with his first productions, promoting techno events, and finally performing. His first releases on Primate Records, Design Music and Conform were a cadence of his arrival and showcased the young artist’s steadfast style.
Having honed his craft at home, in 2004 Davide left Naples for Barcelona unwavering in his resolve. Now, while touring around the continent, he began to release in earnest what would become a massive body of work, and at a dizzying pace. His productions have graced the catalogs of some of the finest labels including Ovum, Shake, Morris Audio, Resopal Schallware, Tuning Spork, CMYK, Adagio, Viva, Nervous, Saved, Sci+Tec, Rillis; the list goes on… Which is not even to speak of his curating and releasing on his own labels – Sketch, Minisketch, Vir, 500, Titbit and most recently the bold Hideout Records.
In addition to his genre-defining works, Davide continues to inspire and ignite dancefloors worldwide. Whether it be at Circoloco, where he has been a resident since 2007, Womb, Berghain, D.Edge, or any other marquee venue, Davide plays with an unequalled funk and excitement. His signature sets, revered by the masses and peers alike, do a double duty in guarding our much-loved traditions while constantly pushing them forward.
The realm of possibilities for one of electronic music’s leading lights is endless. Unfortunately, the minutes in the day are not. Davide’s answer is simple – do what you love and make no compromises.
So I have to shed a silent tear now that Dancing on the Charles is almost over (and I wasn’t even able to make it to 2 or 3 of them!) but there’s really no need to fret, the Midweektechno and Soul Clap gang are taking things indoors. Same town, just a different day of the week. But check out the great lineup! Legendary Fabric resident Lee Burridge is sure to school us with his 25+ years of professional DJ experience on October 7th, we have returning appearances from local producers Paco Osuna and Tanner Ross (I need to review both of these cats’ work in my backyard section, amazing local talent!), and Sascha Dive making a special appearance from Germany. And definitely check out Bassic resident C-Dubs as well, great local dubstep dj who just finished a mix I reviewed just this past weekend here.
I’ve really been meaning to come out to a couple of the Midweektechno parties myself to hang out/shoot pics/etc, so I’ll definitely be at several of these myself.
Minimal techno producers The Italo Boyz make their return to Boston! This production duo (who ironically, are not from Italy, but rather the UK) have been very busy lately, releasing loads of tracks digitally through labels such as Get Physical and Mothership, as well as embarking on a world tour spanning the course of the next several months. These guys have a knack for incorporating a variety of traditional forms of music, including jazz, classical, tribal/african, and (you guessed it) Italian. The traditional/worldly style sounds pretty neat juxtaposed against the chugging rhythms that also salute two geographic locations: Detroit and Chicago. Should be a dope night!
And FYI, here is the flyer for next week's edition as well, featuring Paco Osuna
On tap for the next two wednesdays at the Phoenix Landing:
Damian Schwartz (3/11): Damian is a newer producer on the scene and hails from Belize, he is a major fan of jazz and soul, which you will be able to immediately tell in his techno and minimal work. Video and short clip from a dj set below.
Nick Curly (3/18) Check out Nick's myspace and video below- he's on a bit of a roll lately, releasing stuff on Get Physical, Four Twenty, and 8-Bit (one of the labels he co-owns).
