10-Minute Video of Klever at An Tua Nua, Plus Pics From Genesis

Hi all- here are my audio and visual goods from this past weekend. I saw Klever for the first time this past Friday at An Tua Nua. I dug the way he managed to balance some old-school turntablism by double decking records and rocking some very fast fader cuts with utilizing his technology (Traktor and an X1 controller) to its fullest potential. Ended up grabbing about 10 minutes of video which you can check out above.

I did not have my SLR on me at An Tua Nua, but you can check out the official pics here and here. There are a few iPhone snaps I grabbed, which are linked below. Also, a few SLR pics from Music Ecology’s Genesis the following night.

We’ve partied like there is no tomorrow. We prepared for all the carnage of the apocalypse. Instead we got a second chance. A chance to create a new world, to raise our faces to the sun, to breathe this new air, to reach out to our fellow human, animal or machine… A chance to finally embrace our differences and build a world unlike any other. We invite you to Genesis. Witness the beginning…

The creators of Music Ecology are uniting with VJ Adrenochrome, Kate Van Rees and the team at Machine Nightclub to bring you a new monthly weekend event called Genesis. We invite you to explore the possibilities of a new world with us. Each installment of Genesis will unveil a new visible feature of this world and for the first one we’d like to focus on FLORA: We’ll explore everything that has to do with vegetation, plants, trees, vines, etc. Your participation and creative attire are welcome and encouraged!

IDM Producer Andrei Heyoka Returns To Music Ecology, Allston, 10.4.11

For those of us who were less fortunate (or too old) to make it to Burning Man last month, consider yourself lucky. You still get a chance to witness one of the most talked-about breakthrough performers flex his production muscle right in our dust-free backyard! Heyoka played at Music Ecology (Wonderbar, 186 Harvard Ave, Allston) back in March, but he’s been working on a lot of new music since then.

I’m not even going to bother trying to classify him under a single genre outside of IDM. The man dabs in everything from hip hop, downtempo, breakbeats, glitch, and of course dubstep. (Everybody’s doing dubstep, so why can’t he? Especially considering the fact he does it proper.) $10 cover.

Soundcloud mini-mix below for a taste test.

Take a gander at what the Music Ecology guys have coming up for the rest of October as well. Elements resident Lenore is playing next week, Jeff Bujak and D.V.S. closing out the month.

TOGETHER: Day 1 Recap, Day 2 Flyers, Links / Pantha Du Prince Pics

Hi folks- As many of you from Boston are well aware, the TOGETHER 2011 Festival is now in full swing! What I am going to do is each afternoon, I am going to post quick recaps of the events that took place the previous day, including any important take-aways, photos, video, or other cool things. As one of their event photog’s, you can see to it that I will be at the majority of these events, documenting them as thoroughly as possible.

Because I have the week off work, I’ll also be attending some of the daytime panels as well. They’re all free; and be sure to check the TOGETHER Schedule for times, locations, and other important info.

Wayne Marshall will be giving one presentation at 3 in Northeastern on the art of remixing (77 St. Stephen St., Boston). In case you aren’t aware, Wayne is a highly regarded local blogger and has a very wide array of musical knowledge to share. You should check out his blog when you have a chance- wayneandwax.com.

There will be a workshop at the Bristol Recording Studios (169 Mass Ave, right near Daddy’s Junkie Music Shop) on Mastering, presented by Chris Billas. I had the opportunity to meet Chris, along with Jason Blaske, when I stopped by the Studio to pick my tickets up yesterday. These guys have decades of experience and are very personable. If you check this seminar out (it starts at 6pm and goes to 7:30), bring one of your tracks with you. One lucky person will be selected at random to have their work masterd on the spot.

No daytime events yesterday to recap, however the VIP party on Sunday was a blast! Creative Director David Day presented a proclamation from Mayor Thomas Menino, effectively marking April 17, 2011 as “Together Boston Day” in the city. Angela Bray took photos of the party, you can check them out here.

Here are the pics I took at some of last night’s events:

Links Soundclash :: TT The Bears :: 4.18.2011

Pantha Du Prince :: Great Scott :: 4.18.2011

Pantha Du Prince’s set was awesome- it was a live PA-type thing, with countless MIDI controllers strewn about the table on stage like dirty laundry. Having become familiar with his body of work after recording the Together mix a few weeks ago, I could tell he was layering multiple tracks of his on top of one another, pitch-shifting and re-arranging them to make them sound cohesive. On the fly. I’m still in the dark about what that pyramid shaped thing with the reflectors on the stage was (Alex told me if Pantha has 20 minutes to spare after the set, he would explain in detail). But either way, it looked cool ;)

Below are flyers to tonight’s events. I’ll be shooting at SBTRKT, Hearthrob, Throwed (possibly), as well as some of the early evening shindigs.

Heyoka & Octopus Nebula Play Music Ecology, Wonderbar, 3.22.11

I’m in a rush out the door on the way to work, otherwise I’d post more on this! Heyoka and Octopus Nebula are both highly skilled IDM/experimental music producers who will be headlining Music Ecology tonight at Wonderbar.

Heyoka has a variety of his tracks up on his Soundcloud, one of my personal favorites being his Mandleboogiewoogie mix from a couple months ago. Check it!

Ample Mammal/Polish Ambassador Plays Music Ecology, Wonderbar, 2.22.11

San Francisco’s Ample Mammal, also known as the Polish Ambassador, touches down at Music Ecology in Allston tonight. Many fans refer to him as the “more sophisticated version of Girl Talk”, because of how he takes dozens of loops, samples, vocals, and other sounds and creates entire compositions out of them. Many of these sounds are entirely his own, so don’t expect to hear any Girl Talk style Bob Marley vocals laid over Britney Spears backbeats!

You can have a tease of one of Ample Mammal’s recent mixes below. If you dig, then grab the entire mix on his Bandcamp page.

Music Ecology Presents the Debut of Reset From Start, Wonderbar, 3.2.10!

Drum & Bass, as well as being the EDM genre with clearly the most staying power is also forever changing, molding itself into shapes that always prepare itself for the future. This Tuesday at MUSIC ECOLOGY, we welcome 2 of New England’s finest purveyors of a new, forward sound in DnB, RESET FROM START!

BASEK of the STATESMEN has been perfecting his DJ form as well as his production prowess since the age of 13, constantly on the hunt for the freshest sound, whether signed or unsigned. Sinister technical mixing and selecting from the young brother Conte.

DJ BANE has been a staple in the Western Mass. DnB DJ culture for a decade+. This veteran carries with him the ammo to keep the dance movin’ with a seasoned mix style that captures the essence of what DnB has always been about, the future sound. There couldn’t have been a better pairing.

MC JOSIAH SCRIBES will deviate from his party-hyping mic styles to bring you rhymes and lyrics of a deeper fashion, that back-of-the-notebook real shit!

We will also be giving away their debut tag-team studio mix on the night for your post-dance listening pleasure.

Opening pressure provided by big bro FURIOUS STYLES and hungry newcomer and good friend DJ EPILLECTECH.

Delicious vittles concocted by our resident foodie and future health-guru DEVEN SMITH. Fuel for the dance!

Art display and sale by Allison Smith (Urban Decay Photography). Abandoned mills and closed-down factories being taken over by time and nature. You know you LOVE it!!!

Infectious sub bass and rythyms are afoot Tuesday, BE THERE, COME EARLY, COME THIRSTY, COME DANCING!!

10 PM, $5, 21+ (no exceptions)
