Tight Crew Booty & The Beats 2! DJ Assault, Le Castlevania, Shortee, Etc

If you are involved in the New England rave community then you probably already know the deal about tonight’s event hosted by Tight Crew. But in case anyone from the greater Boston area isn’t aware, the Tight Crew has been heavily involved in hosting large-scale, regional based events outside the city for several years now. Sparing no expense to find the most interesting venues, which include laser tag arenas and spots that are literal indoor amusment parks, their parties can easily draw several thousand partiers! Tonight they are hosting their second annual Booty and the Beats schindig, and what better spokesperson to headline than mister ass and titties himself, DJ Assault.

Assault also played last years B&B event as well, and in case you were like me and missed him when CreateSpace had him play Goodlife back in January, here’s your make-up opportunity.

As part of the package, you are also getting Le Castlevania, who I believe hasn’t played New England since The Estate in 2008 (correct me if I’m wrong here). Still not enough? How about Urban Assault, better known as Faust and Shortee, two of the most technically gifted turntablists on the planet. Add some proper house to the mix with Charles Feelgood. Along with many of your local favorites such as the ever-consistent speed garage producer DJ Parallax (who just released his hotly anticipated Thump 7 mix, embedded below), DJ Venom, A$hley, Tight Crew members Soappy, Fig, and Keither, and more than a dozens others.

Make sure you get your pre-sales here, there’s a good chance it can sell out today. There will be a massive line, so avoid that and the higher door price by hopping on the will-call list.

And here’s a sneak preview of the venue. For the specifics in regards to location, hotel information, DJ timeslots, parking, etc, please go to TIGHT CREW’s website.

Big Party Saturday 8.21.10: Wrecking Ball/True Crew Asylum Reunion

When I post flyers on this site, I generally try to keep them within the greater Boston area as I don’t want to bombard my readers with too many promotional efforts. Every once in a while however I see a party from outside the area that definitely deserves a spot on the homepage of BBD, such as this Saturday’s Wrecking Ball/Asylum reunion.

Wrecking ball boasts a solid lineup of stateside artists, some of who are at riding high at the moment, as well as others who graced the wheels at the original Asylum club in Springfield many times in past years. Although I personally didn’t move out to Boston until 2004, long after the Asylum shut its’ doors, the nightclub was a central point for electronic music within the New England area throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The party goes on all day and tickets are available at www.truecrew.com, along with additional detailed info. I recommend buying pre-sale tickets; although it’s a large venue, door tix are still not guaranteed and you’ll save a bit of cash by taking advantage of buying beforehand. Lineup info below:

HEADLINERS: Excision, Jeru the Damaja, Evol Intent, Charles Feelgood, DJ Funk, Hot Pink Delorean, Terry Mullan, Capital J, Terravita, Hellfire Machina, Odi & MC Posi-D

LOCAL SUPPORT: Big & Dope, Daddy Green Jeans & Mike D, Dan DeSumthn, Dan Garcia & Jay Allegrio, DJ Bane, DJ Caezar, DJ Parallax, DJ Redshift, DL, Dmonyk & DIP, Domonique & Sex Goliath, Earthrok aka D-Money, Eli Wilkie, Entropy, Faction, Flubula, Frydae & Mikey Parkay, Hard Bass Addicts, Havok, Hush & Bons, Jeff Avery, JJ Blades, JSB, Keither, Knowledge, Marc Pastor, MC Elijah Devine, Megrim, Melee, Meszenjah, Midas & Jack McDevitt, PBR STreet Gang, P-Kat, Repeat Offenders, Ritalin, Romeo, Steppo & Knowlton Walsh, Todd Buckler, Tom B Ill & MC Josiah Scribes, Tommie Gunn, Tre

Frankie Bones Touches Down at Rise Tonight, 4.16.10

This guy is a legend, plain and simple…this is the first time he has played in Boston (or any of New England for that matter) for many years. He has over THIRTY years of experience behind a set of Technics 1200s, and as someone who occasionally lurks the forums on discogs.com and reads his routine contributions on there, can vouch for his depth of knowledge of all things electronic music. Official write-up below:

Frankie Bones - Interdance - 1991 by djmixes

Frankie Bones wrote the book, plain and simple. Think back, way back… pre-internet… pre-mp3… pre-commercial… pre-genrification… back before there was even a way to describe loosing your shit to electronic music, Frankie was orchestrating this experience.

Frankie Bones was inspired to bring rave culture to the United States after playing at a hangar party in the UK during 1989. Bones, the first American DJ to play these raves, is considered to be ‘The Godfather of American Rave Culture’.

He got his first inspiration from his father’s vast record collection after his father was murdered. Later on, after he had begun producing records, he was offered a gig to play for 5,000 people in England called “Energy” on the strength of his compositions. As the event started on August 26, 1989, the projected attendance had gone through the roof and Frankie played to 25,000 people while the sun came up. At this event, a fight broke out and Frankie got on a speaker, screaming at the fighters, “If you don’t start showing some peace, love, and unity, I’ll break your fucking faces”. With the subsequent discussion of this event on the Usenet newsgroup alt.rave, Respect was added to the three virtues Frankie was speaking of, creating the hippie-esque raver credo of PLUR: Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.

Being profoundly moved by the experience, he brought it back to Brooklyn in the form of his series of Storm Raves. The Storm Raves events began with only a few hundred people in attendance growing to over 5,000 where the likes of Josh Wink, Doc Martin, Sven Vath, DJ Keoki and Richie Hawtin were able to launch their performances into international careers. The Berlin Love Parade, which is generally considered to be the largest rave in the world, named its 1991 and 1992 Parades after well-known compositions by Frankie Bones.

It is the distinct honor of RISE and Casual Encounters to bring Frankie Bones acbk to Boston for a once-in-a-lifetime re-emmersion. Strip off your biases, step out of your silos, and come dance as one.
