So Dope's All Nighter Brings Joaquin to Rise, Tonight 1.22.10

Its pretty safe to say that we fucked 2009 in the ass with a roll of quarters.
It was hurt it was bleeding, it was crying in the end. 
The only thing 2009 had going for it, is that its not 2010,
because 2010 will not live….to cry.

Never Say Never presents Omar S, of FXHE Records, in Detroit, at the Good Life January 8th, with Alex and Ingy.

Omar S is a true Detroit original. From his seminal early releases on his label FXHE, caned by the likes of DJ Hell, to universally acclaimed masterpieces like Psychotic Photosynthesis, from mentoring Seth Troxler and Kyle Hall to putting out the amazing Fabric 45, considered by RA the mix of the year and one of the best in the series ever, from killing dancefloors around the world to killing those in our stateside backyards, Omar S has set the dance music world on fire. Famous for his uncompromising, raw, minimal and futuristic sound as well as his love of racing cars and fucking with interviewers, Omar is considered the Grand Son of Detroit Techno.

He has been killing dancefloors and festivals all over the world such as at Berghain, Panorama Bar, Unsound, Fabric, Yello and Womb. 

Omar S makes his Boston debut at the Good Life for Never Say Never, with Alex from Queens (12 inches of Pleasure) and Mark Ingram (Sleekit).

New Years Eve 2010: Dance Music Event Guide For Downtown Boston

All right folks, this coming Thursday is going to be a busy one! For those who like dance or electronic music, there’s going to be a ton of options for the night. I’ve been planning on doing a post covering the events for awhile but knowing there would be so many I didn’t want it to be overkill, as I’m sure your Facebook and Myspace inboxes are rammed with e-flyers for a lot of these as well.

The way I’m going to do this is I am going to post a small section of the flyer of each party formatted to fit the layout of BBD, and then under it will be some very brief info about the event. From there, it will be linked to the Facebook event which you can access if you want to get additional info. Also, if you need to purchase an advance ticket, I included links for where you can do that also.

I’ll be at New Years Rezolution and most likely Rise for afterhours, so see you guys there. Party safe, yo! And promoters- if there is anything I missed (which I’m sure there will be) do not hesitate to contact me.

PS: The Throwed/Paper party at Rise is the ONLY 18+ event that I am aware of, and their afterhours is the only spot you can get your groove on after 2am! Also, New Years Rezolution is the only one (again, to my knowledge) that will be focusing on the broken beat (dubstep, drum & bass, and breaks).

Thunderdome XV Halloween Party & Rise Afterhours: 10.30.09

As shadows grow longer on city streets and the sun sets farther to the south, there is a spectre growing over the Boston skyline. The crisp air whispers a secret through baron trees; intended for curious wanderers who have the ears to listen. Yet the subtlety of moonlight will soon grow insufficient as the ground begins to rumble….

We have consulted the ancient calenders and all dates seem to point to 10/30/09. Though cryptic, all accounts focus on a cosmic fault-line situated directed below THE VILLA VICTORIA CENTER FOR THE ARTS in Boston’s South End.

Though the nature of this event is presently unclear, it’s title has been loosely translated from Amharic to:

THUNDERDOME XIV: HALLOWEEN.

Beyond that little is known. Cave-paintings in modern day Turkmenistan speak of a group of chieftains names RNDM & ROBOTKID who’s combined use of fire and drums captivated their people and elevated them to a secret land. Could this disturbance herald their return?

And this is barely scratching the surface. Prophesy speaks of a group of jester spirits who will come to lead pure hearts and minds astray. What is this mysterious <3THROB and what do they have in store? What of the half lizard/ half gibbon creature knows to West Africa’s Fulani tribe as MISTAKER? Or this LARA CALLAHAN? (who’s true name cannot be pronounced by the western larynx) Will her fabled artifact truly steal your soul?

We could go on speculating but it seems there is little to do but wait and see what happens. All we can say for sure is that something major is happening on October 30th and woe be unto those who fail to head it’s call.

From his early years of DJing at Bedrock nights in his home town of Hastings, to the 10+ hour sets in New York today, one thing remains the same - a complete love of all music. It’s this passion and plenty of hard work that has helped Danny to get where he is today. It’s no coincidence that he’s been placed in DJ Magazine’s top 20 DJs in the world for the last 3 years. Danny has a unique, eclectic sound which as been described as “deepsexyfuturistictechfunkhouse” and it’s this sound which which is shaking floors worldwide. 

Danny’s infectious personality and individual style is what really puts him a cut above the rest though. You can really sense his connection with the crowd wherever he plays, and he has fully earned the label “the clubbers DJ”.

I was out of town this past weekend so didn’t hear about this until now, but Campus kicked off it’s first weekly this past friday and the line was down the street. Nice booking! I’m a little upset that I’ll be out of town for this, I’ve wanted to see Tom Middleton play for years. One of the most eclectic and versatile DJ’s out there and has been doing his thing for about as long as most clubbers have been alive.

Derrick Carter, Tonight 7.10.09 @ An Tua Nua, Clive Henry @ Rise.

2 parties going on tonight at An Tua Nua and Rise afterhours, if you don't have any other plans definitely check these out. Derrick Carter hasn't been to Boston in years, last time I think was when I saw him at Avalon in early '05. Carter continues to roll out funky house sets and is one of the few who hasn't hopped on the electro/indie bandwagon- he just continues to do his thing while still packing the dancefloors. Clive Henry has also been around for a minute, with a respectable number of tech and progressive house songs released by the likes of Hooj Choons and NRK in the pocket. Pat Fontes and Make it New resident Alan Manzi opening in the lounge.
