By the time in the early 1960s, technology was advancing at an alarming rate. In addition to competing for first place, in the more realistic world of replica watches, quartz electronics are beginning to rumble in the east.
Although the first self-winding timepiece is still years away, you have to remember that the watch you wound yourself is starting to look like a relic from another era. If you really want a mechanical timer with a manual spring, the Omega Speedmaster has almost taken over. As a result, replica Rolex Daytona is still lingering on the shelves, with dealers reportedly eager to get rid of the watches, selling them at rock-bottom prices or even buying other, more expensive Rolex watches in the form of buy-one-get-one-free deals.
In 1965, the brand boldly introduced the 14k and 18k gold versions of the ref. 6239, the same name finally appeared on the watch. It was then that they commissioned Singer, a clockmaker, to design a dial that was different from the standard silver and black dial. The things they display are called “exotic dial”, the color of the external one-minute audio track is the same as that of the sub-dial, the crosstrees on the timing counters, and the art deco fonts of the Numbers. These dials, known today as Paul Newman dials, did not change the appeal of the Daytona Rolex but made the unpopular watch even less popular.
The no. 6239 limped along until 1969, alongside two other planes; Reference no. 6241 is almost identical except for a black acrylic jack in the bezel. It was the first sample to have the word Oyster printed on the dial, demonstrating its remarkable water resistance. It was followed by regular improvements and a few other references released until the first generation of fake Rolex Daytona went to the end of 1988. Since then, however, things have been looking for a Rolex chronograph.
