The 2nd edition of GOOD NEWS! comes with not one, but two dj’s playing back to back.
Beep Iams is a product of Chicago and currently resides in NYC. As a former drum’n’bass dj, he applies the same fast paced, energetic sets with electro and house music.
Back again is DJ Die Young who switches it up from the minimal and techno he usually plays at Make it New, to feel good house, funk, and hip hop. His tracks are always on tune and in time.
On Tuesday, October 27, On A Friday is giving you a dose of Boston’s freshest DJ talent in the form of a sexy, bloody mess. HAUNTED HAUS will be at the Enormous Room in Cambridge and will host the college DJs Nooka Jones, Jason Bergman, and C & G, with visuals by Ryan McDaid.
The 21+ party is FREE and will go from 9 to 1 AM.
There are many DJ nights in Boston that offer the same show every week, with few surprises and standardized sets. Haunted Haus will be a different kind of show, featuring fresh, diverse sets from each of our college DJs (our talent represents Northeastern, Boston University, Boston College, and Berklee). The night will have some Halloween spice tastefully thrown in… who knows, we might even have some candy blood.
Check out the event on Facebook by clicking here. And check out Enormous room’s website here.
Throwed presents the Boston premiere of Dangerous Muse at the Middle East Upstairs, this tuesday!
So after months and months of special guests filling the hole in the hearts of the subliminal dudes left by the absence of the hometown homeboy, professor pious… the mighty professor returns!
This should only add to the momentum the subliminal dudes have been building in recent weeks, with the launch of projects like Links Soundclash, Boston’s local producer showcase; and LOSTINBASS.com, a site focused on bringing new sounds to the city and bringing the bass scene together… not to mention Stickem’s (for now) top secret collaborations that should make waves. (run-on sentences are awesome, amirite?)
Need I mention dabu and dsub’s fiery opening sets at Bassic opening for Mochipet? No, probably not. You were there anyways, right? No? Oh, bummer. I know you needed to hear that Juan Mclean tune for the 7th time that week.
So, slightly less wordy summary:
dabu.dsub.professorpious.stickem bring you the best in under the radar hiphop.glitchhop.wonky.skwee.dubstep and original productions, ‘natch.
DUBWISE OLD SCHOOL SESSIONS This time we’re going WAY back. Before Funky, Dubstep, Grime, 2-Step… the beginning of what some people call the ‘Ardcore Continuum… the ever evolving music pathway through the UK Underground that started with UK Hardcore at the very beginning of the 1990’s and spawned genre after genre with each generation of producers and club-goers in the UK.
This sunday at the Enormous Room! Scion returns with their monthly Metro installment, this time showcasing the talent of quickly rising electro producer Treasure Fingers (originally of Evol Intent fame!) as well as legendary house/garage producer Roy Davis Jr. As usual, you need to RSVP to this party to get in, which you can do here.
If you've been to any club in the past two years, then you've definitely heard this track by Treasure Fingers, which put him on the map:
And the garage heads surely remember Roy Davis Jr's biggest track, Gabrielle, from 1997:
Two great events on tap for this coming week at The Enormous Room. First up is another monthly edition of Dubwise, featuring LAB afficiando Scotch 1 and Skunk, along with residents Vice-T and G Notorious.
Vice-T returns with his Wednesday night party Left Turn after a short break, and as you may already know his night is also at the E-Room and focuses on the vibrant, colorful sounds of U.K. Funky! However you can expect to hear different flavors of garage and dubstep in there too. Special guest DJ Vous on tap, with residents Vice T and UMI on opening duties. (And the flyer is designed by yours truly!)

Come celebrate the first six months of Subliminal Sessions as ourbrother in arms, DJ WHATEVER aka Alex from BlueBoy Productions comes by for a solo DJ Set.
Blue Boy Productions aka BBP is Alex Russo and Chris Narainen. They have been building a following on both sides of the river at a rapid pace throughout 2009 with off the cuff (and off the chain!) performances at Beat Research, upstairs at the Middle Eastwith BioDiesel, at that "undisclosed location" in Allston and with the SubRoots collective. An 'average' performance will see BBP shift from trance to drum and bass to dubstep over the course of a few short bars.
Alex's solo DJ sets fit in perfectly with the Subliminal concept: effortless tempo and genre jumping, playing to the crowd in front of him without pandering, with a firm grip on 'cool'.
Also of note... BBP will be bringing 'sound reinforcement' to ensure you shake your ass.
Sorry for the late notice on this! Heartthrob is hosting another Scion Metro party tonight at Enormous Room. This is the second one to hit Boston, last month they brought Ewun (Kill the Noise) out to play and as always he tore it up! This installment features Designer Drugs, who is also returning from a set they played last month at Privus which is going to be a tough act to follow. Pase Rock, Hardy Boyz, Franki Chan, and Blu Jemz are also on tap.
You MUST RSVP by 8pm tonight to get in though, so sign up here and come get your drink on!
A little late on this one, but if you're in the cambridge area tonight check out Subliminal Sessions. Hosted by Professor Pious, dSub, Dabu & Stickem, they dish out a nice concoction of experimental and hip hop music with a nice dubstep reduction sauce (sorry that was the worst metaphor ever written haha). Kat Fyte runs with the Pop Influence crew and they have a nice blog online where you can check out some of their work, check out the Bass Kitten mix here! Tonight at the Enormous Room.
G Notorious's monthly edition of Dubwise is set to lean towards the side of UK Funky music. This tuesday Vice-T, Umi, and myself will be playing UK Funky, Garage, and House at the Enormous Room! Vice-T of the Soulchampion crew runs a bi-weekly there every other tuesday called Left Turn. Although the guests who play at the event are known to cover all the diverse flavors of garage music, there is definitely a lean towards the rapidly emerging sounds of UK Funky house. Vice-T, along with crew mate G Notorious, are (to my knowledge) the first dj's in the new england area playing it! I just designed the flyer yesterday and am actually pretty happy with the way it came out.
In case you are unfamiliar with UK Funky, it is essentially a new form of garage that takes on a slower tempo (around the 125-130 range) and draws a lot of influence from early 1990s deep house as well as latin, african, and soca music. Although it tends to be lumped in the "garage" category I actually think it has a much different character to it, and think that the emphasis lies more on the percussion and groove than the bassline. UK funky tends to incorporate a LOT of percussion, including latin drums and bongos, which give it its' distinction. It's great music to chill out to, and some of the producers who pioneered this sound include Blaine, Roska, and Apple. UK Funky music has really only existed for 1-2 years and there are only a few hundred songs out there tops right now, but I see a great deal of potential in it. It might not be considered "peak hour" music at a rave by any stretch of the imagination, but perfect for warming things up and setting the tempo. Check out ukfunky.com for more info on this style of music.
Be sure to download Vice-T and G Notorious's Boston Gets (UK Funky) mix here!
