"Technorganic Haunted House" Reigns Supreme at Make It New With Louisahhh, 5.19.11

LOUISAHHH’s dynamic energy behind the decks and in the studio has been captivating crowds and moving dance floors internationally since 2004. A New York City ‘boroughbred’ now based in Los Angeles, LOUISAHHH cut her chops on ‘real’ instruments prior to choosing turntables as her sonic weapon of choice. Since doing so, her primary purpose has been to transmit to audiences worldwide with the sheer joy she experiences from the music. This commitment to the craft has created a powerhouse on vinyl and a musical style with roots firmly planted in tradition, but with an eye to the future.

As a producer, LOUISAHHH’s distinct ‘technorganic haunted house’ is taking off, as is her work as part of NYCPARTYINFO, which has original work and remixes coming out on labels such as Nettwerk, This is Music Ltd, Top Billin and Nervous Records. Thrilling collaborations with Senor Stereo, Danny Daze and Gucci Vump are being supported by top names internationally.

Conde Nasty by LOUISAHHH!!!

Sharing the bill with names as celebrated and diverse as Juan Maclean and Derrick Carter, Tiefschwarz and A-Trak, LOUISAHHH continues to focus on original material and lifting hearts and opening minds on dancefloors around the world.

Re:Set Presents KiNK and Volvox at the Phoenix Landing, 4.7.11

Who’s ready for some proper acid house/techno tonight? The Midweek Techno gang have recently revamped their weekly at the Phoenix Landing (512 Mass Ave, Cambridge), titling it Re:Set. KiNK originally caught my attention about a year ago from an EP he released on Ovum Recordings that included the following song, which eventually went on to become one of the biggest anthems of the year:

Following this, it also came to my attention that when this guy plays live, it isn’t just a DJ set, but rather live PA, using entirely vintage analog drum machines, synths, and samplers. And as evidenced by the videos below, he does a pretty damn good job at improvising live, whether it’s in his bedroom or in front of thousands of people:

So if you’re sold on KiNK, then come check him play Re:Set tonight, alongside local favorite Volvox. The Phoenix is 19+, and only $5 if you’re there before 11pm. Show kicks off at 9:30pm.

Basstown Visions @ Goodlife, Plus 5-Hour Mike Swells Set @ Rise, 2.12.11

Jordan Dare is an icon of Montreal nightlife. Purveyor of dark, artsy techno and electro, Jordan is a regular DJ at Voyeur and I ♥ Neon, two of Montreal’s most insane dance spectaculars. Currently releasing on My Favorite Robot, he is also associated with Tiga’s genre-busting TURBO Records, having previously released on their White Leather sublabel.

Jordan arrived in Montreal in the early 90’s from the US, and made his name on the vibrant Montreal electronic scene in as little time as it takes to cross the border. Starting out as a prominent drum n’ bass DJ in the late 90s, Dare learned how to vary his style to keep winning over crowds for the next 10 years and became known as one of the most compelling locals DJs thanks to his dark electro mixes.

Make It New Presents Todd Gys & Soren Jahan, Middlesex Lounge, 1.6.11

While Make It New loves to shine a light on the national and international producers of the new dance music we know and love, more and more Boston produces it’s own talent.

the last time Todd Gys played a Basstown event, he was opening for Pantha Du Prince on Lansdowne street. Soren Jahan (aka R. Audiard), on the other hand, is a new blood who would try to sneak into the club only a few years ago.

>Now, the duo join up to take on Make It New in celebration of their original production, Tyrants.

Check out their release on Soundcloud:
http://soundcloud.com/defchild/sets/gys-tyrants/

And join us as we unite two generations of Boston’s brightest music makers. The 12” vinyl of course will be there.

Support from MiN resident DJs Volvox and David Day.

The night is free. This Thursday. See you there.

Matthew Dear, Andre Obin, Coralcola & Volvox @ Great Scott, 10.19.10

Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He’s had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

Basstown & History Group Presents Abe Duque at Goodlife, 10.9.10

ABE DUQUE IS IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE.

The surname is pronounced “Du-kay”. He jokingly describes himself as one of the “few producers still licensed to use the 303”. But with a career that started in the early days of house at New York’s notorious Limelight, Abe Duque has been at the head of the acid-house and underground-techno table since his earliest releases way back in 1993.

Abe has also been behind some of DJ Hell’s greatest hits, including the smash hit KEEP ON WAITING.

We are VERY excited to bring this electronic veteran to Boston for Visions! Abe will be playing LIVE using 303s and other gear to compose a seamless set of his own productions.

Check out this sweat-inducing, body-jacking hi energy mix for a taste of what’s to come! Abe’s style is a breath of fresh air drawn directly from the original spirit of electronic dance music!

Juno Mix:

Joining Abe downstairs will be Basstown residents VOLVOX and MISTAKER.

Upstairs DAVID DAY and DJ DIE YOUNG will play funk and dance jams all night. Something for everyone!

Basstown presents Visions @ the Goodlife, Saturday 11.7.09

The Basstown monthly return in the form of Visions and for November, we have one crazy-ass line-up. We can hardly believe how it came together ourselves.

DOWNSTAIRS

It’s the full international techno force of Caged Baby. This is a guy who closed the Ibiza super-party known as We Love Space. This is a guy name-checked by Pete Tong, a guy whoh has residencies as Pacha, Creamfields, Big Day Out (Australia) and spins the techno and house we love, albeit in a rapid-fire way that will make you cry.

SUPPORT FROM: Volvox and David Day

UPSTAIRS

From Montreal, Huggs is a favorite of Aoki, Cosmo Baker and Jokers of the Scene. When it comes to the electro that has taken over club-land, Huggs isn’t just an O.G., he’s an O.G. of O.G.s. Right in line with Boston favs Certified Bananas and Devlin and Darko. From the NYC cool of Dances With White Girls and Lauren Flax, he’s the real deal.

SUPPORT FROM: Red Foxxx and Mistaker

We don’t know how this talent configuration happened. And if we did, we probably wouldn’t tell you anyway. This sounds like some hype nonsense, but we’re not kidding or hyping this at all, this is a party the likes that these two floors have never seen.

And all for five bucks.

The best part? The beneficiary, the result, the end all be all, the whole reason this whole thing is going down is to make one person sweat like never before. And that person is

YOU.

Basstown presents Visions @ the Goodlife, Saturday 10.10.09

After a few months of dormancy, the Basstown monthly is back and badder than ever. Red Foxx joins the team, Mistaker returns and of course residents Volvox and Die Young hold it down.

VISIONS

Each month, we’ll bring you two floors of different sounds, both equally delicious.

CERTIFIED BANANAS has gone from Enormous Room meltdowns to Thunderdome IV to A-Trak’s Fools Gold records (Kid Sister, Treasure Fingers, Laidback Luke). They blew up in Providence and took over the world. They’re back to let you know.

OBJECT GROUP (aka Alvin Aronson) also comes from Providence, in league with Morgan Louis and Christopher Wade, Aronson began LOVELIFE, the secret speak-easy night with taste to spare. His exquisite taste and masterful mixing has made him a long-time favorite.

So bring $5, ears to hear and feet to move. This is the new Basstown monthly. It’s the new Good Life it’s a series of

Basstown presents I'll House You, Great Scott, 5.30.09 Bruno vs. 7L

Bruno and 7L are two legends in Boston's music scene; both will be going head to head tomorrow and the result will be dozens of house music treats spanning the last 20 years! With 7L very busy in the studio working on his hip hop based projects you don't get to see him playing house and dance music every day, but he has well beyond 20 years of experience behind the decks so he surely won't disappoint. Bruno is the man behind the one of the longest running house music events in the city, Utopia; his career spans just as long as 7L's. Basstown hosts Die Young and Volvox will bring the opening pressure. Be there!

Also, be sure to check out 7L's side project The Bladerunners. This is an ongoing project between him and Steve "The Razor" Picardi where they take a variety of different tracks and mash them up/rework them in a dancefloor context. Their edits have been popular amongst A-list US dj's such as Kenny Dope and Z-Trip, be sure to check their site for future projects.

This party looks great! Check out Portable Sunsets at flatflat.org as well as Pete Dev/Null, who is one of the most versatile DJ's and Producers in Boston.
